Apple Picking Tips: Select apples with good size and color. Gently lift and twist the fruit off the branch. Place the apple gently into your container. Do not toss it in, as this will cause bruising. When two apple are adjacent each other on the branch, grasp both apples and twist in opposite directions. This will prevent dropping any fruit on the ground. Leave unripe fruit on the tree. The fruit left on the tree will continue to ripen and will hold for an extended period of time before needing to be harvested.
Storing Apples: Once you have brought your apples home, keep them in a cool dry place (preferably around 35-45 degrees Fahrenheit) out of sunlight. If there are any punctured apples in the bag, remove them because they will be more likely to spoil. Harder apples, like Fuji, Gala and Arkansas Black, will store better and for longer periods of time than soft varieties, such as Golden Delicious.
Pick-your-own fruit is sold by the box/container. We provide containers. Make sure to wear comfortable clothing. If you are bringing children, please take the time to speak with them about identifying and picking ripe fruit, and being gentle with the crops.
